The New York Times recently came out with a rave review (under the heading “NY Times Critics Pick”) for Filipino filmmaker Erik Matti’s “On the Job,” which opened in 25 theaters in the United States and Canada on September 27.
NYT’s Jeannette Catsoulis raved: “Even at its most incomprehensible, [this] propulsive thriller is never less than arresting.”
Catsoulis commended the “strong acting and nervy camerawork.” She noted, “[The director’s] pitiless view of Filipino society may be deadening, but his filming is wondrously alive.”
“OTJ,” starring Joel Torre, Piolo Pascual, Joey Marquez and Gerald Anderson, was also reviewed favorably in the New York Post, San Francisco Chronicle, Village Voice, Toronto Star and Los Angeles Times, among others. It got a 100 percent “freshness” score on the movie review website Rotten Tomatoes.
It is showing in at least 25 theaters in New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Washington DC, Hawaii and Las Vegas in the US; and in Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, Manitoba and Alberta in Canada. “OTJ” is distributed by Well Go USA Entertainment in North America.
