LOS ANGELES—Frugality, creativity and charm make a winning formula for Myx TV’s new original dating series, “Cheap Date.”
Hosted by DJ D-Wrek of Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out, “Cheap Date” premieres on Monday, Oct. 14, at 8/7c, and, for the first time, will be exclusively available for VOD streaming on Myx TV’s website the next day.
On each episode, two male contestants on very tight budgets of less than $50 vie for the approval of one special lady to show her the time of her life on their respective dates. Their penny-pinching ingenuity takes the audience into undiscovered restaurants and thrilling activities around Los Angeles. The winner gets to go on a lavish second date with a big budget.
“Cheap Date is a dating show for our times,” said George Chung, executive producer. “With the economy still recovering from the recession, majority of Americans are on tight budgets but always find ways to have a good time in their everyday lives, including dating. It is not about how cheap you can be but how creative you can get on a small budget.”
“Our first original dating series is in line with the network’s goal to produce more original programming catered to a multicultural mainstream audience nationwide,” said Miguel Santos, general manager for Myx TV. “Our viewers will enjoy the diversity of this cast, their personalities, and ingenious dating strategies.”
