Deafening shrieks and cheers shook the Big Dome when Daniel Padilla and screen partner Kathryn Bernardo appeared together onstage at the former’s solo concert early this year. It’s safe to say that their love team is one of the most popular today.
Even so, Kathryn knows that she can’t rely on her tandem with Daniel forever, and that she eventually has to stand on her own as an actress.
“The time will come when Daniel and I have to team up with other artists; I can’t do anything about that. That’s how things go in show biz; I have to accept it,” Kathryn told reporters during her recent launch as endorser of Juicy Cologne.
Sad thought
“The very thought of parting with Daniel makes me sad, especially because we’ve become close. But when that happens, I assure fans that nothing will change,” the 17-year-old actress added enigmatically. Her last major TV show with Daniel was the ABS-CBN drama series “Princess and I.”
Kathyrn is optimistic that her career will be just fine without a love team. “What’s good about our fans is that they don’t support us only as a pair. They also follow our individual pursuits,” she said.
Not picky
Asked if she had a dream leading man, Kathryn said she was not picky, and would accept whoever the network picked for her. “But I would love to work with John Lloyd Cruz, Piolo Pascual, Vilma Santos and Ronaldo Valdez someday,” the Kapamilya actress said.
Her coming TV series with Daniel, “Got to Believe,” was supposed to air in July, but was postponed due to lack of canned material, according to the network. The grapevine says the real reason for the delay is that management was disappointed with the show.
Kathyrn denied that, and reiterated that they hadn’t taped enough episodes for the soap helmed by Cathy Garcia-Molina. “We were just given time to bank more material,” Kathryn said.
Kissing scenes
Unlike her past kilig shows, Kathryn said “Got to Believe” was “a step more mature.” However, if the fans are expecting kissing scenes … sorry, they will have to wait until Kathryn gets older. “I’m still not ready,” she said. “I’m only 17.”
Juggling acting and studies in fashion marketing at Enderun College, Kathryn barely gets a day off in a week. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are for “Got to Believe”; Tuesdays and Thursdays for her 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival horror entry “Pagpag”; Saturdays for school; Sundays for “ASAP 18.”
No complaints there. “Everything comes with a sacrifice. With all the blessings you get, you have to give up something,” she said.
Does she have a social life? “I get that at work,” she replied.
