Why Nora’s ‘El Presidente’ shoot was called off

/ 07:42 PM August 21, 2011

It’s confirmed. Lorna Tolentino and Edu Manzano have moved to TV5. They will be doing a teleserye with Alice Dixon soon.

LT’s soap on ABS-CBN, “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin,” has already ended its run.

She told me that her project on the Kapatid network will start by October.

Honored guest

Edu might be a guest in Nora Aunor’s dramaserye “Sa Ngalan ng Ina,” also on TV5. He should do a late-night talk show, though, which is his forte.

“I will be privileged and honored to work with the one and only Superstar,” Doods said. “It’s TV history in the making.”

About his possible daughter-in-law, Jennylyn Mercado, does he approve of her being linked with his son Luis? “I make it a point never to interfere with my son’s love life primarily because he is such a mature, level-headed and trustworthy person,” he explained. “I’m not surprised at all that his affections have been centered on Jen. I know her personally. She is a kind, respectful and hardworking girl. The fact that she has remained down-to-earth despite her success is yet another thing she has in common with Luis.”

Direk Tikoy Aguiluz clarified why the “El Presidente” shooting of Ate Guy was called off last August 13.

“Nora came to the set. She really wanted to work that day,” Tikoy explained. “But the doctor was the one who advised her to go home and rest. The doctor examined her doon mismo sa location. So we had no choice but to reschedule.”

Concerned fans of the Superstar need not worry. She’s not back to her old ways.

Neither was the pack-up caused by the arrival of her special friend, John Rendez. This time La Aunor means business. Once more with feeling, Ate Guy!

Identity crisis

Ervic Vijandre cringes when he is referred to as the ex of Marian Rivera. “I wanna have my own identity. I could have married her nung sumikat siya but I wanted to prove something on my own,” he said. “Masakit ’pag sinasabi na ginagamit ko si Marian komo may nakaraan kami. Minsan ang tawag pa sa akin ng mga tao ay Dingdong. We were high school sweethearts hanggang bigla siyang sumikat. Noon nagseselos ako sa mga ka-love team niya. Pero ngayon na artista na ako naiintindihan ko na ang kalakaran.”

Was Marian as “palaban na GF” during their time just as she is now with Dingdong Dantes? Costars of Dong like Bella Padilla and Heart Evangelista were not spared from Marian’s wrath.

“Mahirap mag-comment,” he replied. “Basta si Marian focused sa love life. Yan ang priority niya kaya ipaglalaban niya talaga. She’s the type of girl na pinapakasalan kasi she’s totally devoted.”

Ervic admits that he had a hard time getting over Marian (“Muntik na akong masiraan ng ulo”) but he has moved on. Ervic is now dating Rich Asuncion.

Would he be willing to work with Marian and Dingdong? “Sino ba naman ako para tumanggi,” he said. “Pero mukhang malabo yun. Baka maging war movie (laughs).”

Rated ‘B’

We gave “Way Back Home” a “B” rating at the Cinema Evaluation Board. Agot Isidro and Lotlot de Leon gave their finest performances and lead stars Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes were quite a revelation. Kathryn reminds me of a younger Sarah Geronimo. She possesses the same spunk and charm as Sarah.

If given the right projects, Kathryn could reach full stardom soon enough. Her team-up with Enrique Gil has “kilig” factor to the max.

I teased Diego Loyzaga if he’s jealous of Enrique since he was rumored to be wooing Kathryn. “Not at all,” he said. “Close lang kami ni Kathyrn. Kung selos ako eh di dapat ’di ako nanood ng premiere ng movie nila.”

After “Way Back home,” will Kathryn and Diego find their way back to each other and pick up where they left off?

PERSONAL: Thanks a mil to my newfound sister, Liza Carreon, for bringing so much laughter to my la vida loca-luka!
