It’s fine to have gay crushes–Karylle

/ 09:23 PM July 07, 2013

SHE FEELS safe with gay pals who are honest and open.

I find the “love team” of Karylle and Vice Ganda cute and amusing. Vicerylle mania is creating quite a commotion. It has spawned a Vice Pogi and Karylle Facebook Fan Page.  Since I have a gay son, (to whom I fondly refer as my “DalaGAY”) IC, I have a soft spot for homosexuals; in fact, I have turned into a  babaeng bading. I have a gay best friend whom I’d marry if he were straight.

With the phenomenal success of GMA 7’s, “My Husband’s Lover,” I wouldn’t be surprised if ABS-CBN developed Vicerylle into a sitcom. It could tackle a different aspect of gay love/friendship/romance.

Could  you fall for Vice even if he’s gay?

I actually have a bunch of gay crushes. I feel safer that way. You’re free to flirt with them as much as you like. (Laughs) As for falling in love, I don’t know what to say. Vice is my most honest and most open friend. People are usually very careful about what they say around me because I’m nice. Alam ko na hindi niya ako ipapahamak, so I appreciate the honesty.

One time, we were in Hawaii, he said he didn’t like my eye shadow so  his makeup artist and hair stylist fixed me up and he was happy.

Another time, we were having this conversation while dancing and he said, “Isn’t this liberating?” He’s surprisingly the only one I can have those conversations with. I’m thankful that I became a hurado in “Showtime.” That’s where I really started doing LOLs. I used to think I should be dalagang Pilipina when I laughed. Now I just love to laugh!

You said in “Gandang Gabi Vice” that  you had “converted” two gays. How did that go?

(Laughs) I don’t know why I said “convert”…may tamang term ba? Baka napadalawang isip? I was newly single at the time and going out a lot. I made a lot of friends—some of them gave me flowers, some asked me out, jogged with me, others took me dancing…some even went on trips with me. I was enjoying the “single life” as everyone kept telling me to do. It seemed, at a certain point, that my new gay friends started looking at me differently. I can’t prove it, of course. This is all just my interpretation of what happened. That’s pretty much why I wrote the song “OMG.”

Do you believe that the best men are gay? Why or why not?

I never see being gay or straight as a qualifier for goodness. Although I know a lot of sweet, handsome, outstanding gay men, I also know a lot of excellent straight guys. The qualities I admire in people are not dictated by sexual preference.

What’s your advice to girls who are falling for gay men?

I think having a crush on a gay man is fine, but that could eventually lead you to dangerous territory. Try not to cross the line. Just stay friends.

Some girls probably don’t know it, but they like getting their hearts broken. Like for instance, most girls go through a “bad boy” phase; that never ends well. Or maybe it does for some people?

Do you feel your love team with Vice could be developed into a sitcom that could be pitted against the hit series, “My Husband’s Lover,” but one that would tackle a different aspect of homosexual love?

Actually, our life behind the scenes, or when we hang out after work is pretty hilarious.

Checking on Baron

I checked on Baron Geisler after he was found guilty of the charge of act of lasciviousness filed by Patrizha Martinez (daughter of Yayo Aguila and William Martinez).  His reply via text: “Thank you for your concern, Miss Dolly, I appreciate it. I was advised by my lawyer not to release any statement for now. Hope you understand. All the best to you.”

After undergoing rehab for alcoholism, Baron has been trying his darn best to clean up his act. Hopefully, he will keep his spirits up instead of going “bottoms up” as he endures this trial.

I am looking forward to the feature about my Michael Jackson collection on one of my favorite shows, “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” (Sunday, 7:30 p.m., on GMA 7). They will show other celebs’ collections as well. I can hardly wait to visit the MJ Café/Museum in Sofitel Macau on my birthday. In my heart, the King of Pop can never be dethroned.
