Benedict Babasa, guidance counselor: “I have been watching ‘My Husband’s Lover’ diligently. Its theme and plot veer significantly away from the usually predictable TV dramas. It addresses the issue of homosexuality in a humane way, and explores how its characters manage to triumph over loneliness and isolation. The show is endearingly honest and frank, a breath of fresh air in local programming!”
Affordable movie treats
Robbie Tinawin, businessman: “Some SM cinemas are making a profit by showing second-run foreign films—at P25 per ticket! Moviegoers, mostly students, come in droves because they’re affordable.
“How about showing our local classics, like ‘Himala’ and Oro Plata Mata,’ at bargain prices? We appreciate the efforts of our television networks to include acclaimed Pinoy movies in their programming—but, there’s nothing better than seeing them on the big screen!”
Yuki Romeo Sacurom, fashion designer: “The CineFilipino film festival was supposed to open this month, but its launch has been reset, with no specific date yet. I have been looking forward to watching its entries, especially Mes de Guzman’s ‘Ang Kuwento ni Mabuti’ and Sari and Kiri Dalena’s ‘The Guerrilla Is a Poet.’ Any update, CineFilipino organizers?”
