One of the highlights of the Miss Universe Philippines 2024 pageant was Alden Richards who amused netizens with his “angry” way of announcing the delegates who made it to the Top 20.

Richards, who was one of the hosts of the national tilt’s coronation night on Wednesday, had the role of announcing the winners of the elimination rounds, but his energetic, if not forceful delivery stole the show, much to the amusement — or chagrin— of viewers.

Some posted their reaction on social media.

The announcement elicited funny reactions from netizens on social media, with many focusing on Richards’ way of announcing Baguio by referring to it as the “summer capital of the Philippines” or the “final date spot of couples before breaking up.

One @AltKapuso compared Richards’ hosting to the tag line of “Pera o Bayong,” a segment of the now-defunct noontime show “Magandang Tanghali Bayan.”

Meanwhile, X user @_seonstay praised Richards for being “consistent” throughout his hosting stint, saying his way of announcing the delegates was “effective.”

“Alden Richards really did a great job in hosting. Ang consistent ng energy and everyone is talking about his ‘nakagugulat’ and ‘galit’ announcement, it was effective. Some people might not like how he hosts, but he improved a lot. He can attract and hype the crowd. I love it,” the post read.

Richards seemed to take the comments in stride as he even participated in the trending marketing stunt for an energy drink on Instagram on Thursday, May 23, which showed a rider collapsing from a motorcycle before transitioning into the actor himself.

The actor’s management Sparkle GMA Artist Center also congratulated the “Hello, Love, Goodbye” star on his recent milestone.

“Congratulations to Asia’s Multimedia Star Alden Richards for doing a great job hosting the Miss Universe Philippines 2024 coronation night,” its post read.

Aside from Richards, the Miss Universe Philippines 2024 pageant also tapped award-winning Hollywood presenter Jeannie Mai and Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel as hosts, while Gabbi Garcia and Tim Yap served as commentators.
