It seems that Sponge Cola couldn’t get enough of the hit K-drama “Queen of Tears,” as their new single “Tatlong Buwan” was inspired by the Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won led-series.

The OPM band released the single “Tatlong Buwan” on Wednesday, April 24. A lyric video was also released on the same day, which garnered over 1,000 views, as of press time. The track was produced with the help of Angee Rozul.

In a statement, lead vocalist Yael Yuzon said the track is an ode to the love story of Baek Hyun-woo (Kim Soo-hyun) and Hong Hae-in (Kim Ji-won) while noting that their “sociological factors, family ties, and trauma” played a role in their respective storylines.

“‘Tatlong Buwan’ is inspired by the love story of the main characters of Queen of Tears. It helps that it’s a series; you really get to know the characters. You see why they’re the way they are. Sociological factors, family ties, trauma. You see how they’re all shaped and the push and pull of every character,” he said.

Yuzon also shared that the track was written after he watched the K-drama’s 10th episode, which centered around the effects of Yoon Eun-sung’s (Park Eun-sung) wrongdoings toward Baek, Hong, and their families.

“There’s just so much clarity in the way the narrative unfolds that it’s so easy to empathize, which makes it easier to feel and easier to write,” he said. “I don’t think I’ve ever said ‘mamahalin ka lang, mamahalin kita’ in a song before.”

The Sponge Cola frontman also confirmed that a music video set in the K-drama’s filming locations is in the works, and is geared towards an April 26 release.

“There’s something engulfing about visiting locations where great narrative moments took place,” he said of the music video’s location. “It’s like these places witnessed so much emotion that there’s still some of it left.”

Back in December 2023, the OPM band released the song “Hometown” inspired by the K-drama “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” starring Kim Seon-ho and Shin Min-ah.

“Queen of Tears,” headlined by Soo-hyun and Ji-won, tells the story of a once-happily married couple repairing the parts of their damaged relationship.
