Brillante Mendoza wins La Navicella prize at Venice filmfest

MANILA, Philippines—Filipino director Brillante Mendoza won the La Navicella – Venezia Cinema Award for “Thy Womb.”

“Thy Womb” producer Larry Castillo said the La Navicella is composed of critics at the Venice International Film Festival.

Previous winners of the award include Kathryn Bigelow’s “The Hurt Locker,” which eventually bagged an Oscar prize in 2010.

La Navicella  is given to directors of films that are “considered particularly relevant for the affirmation of human values.”
