EULA Caballero

Early this year, Kapatid actress Eula Caballero received her first acting nods for her role in the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival entry “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.”

Eula, who turned 17 last May 23, was nominated as New Movie Actress of the Year in the Star Awards for Movies. She was also one of the contenders in Golden Screen Awards’ Breakthrough Performance by an Actress category.

Although she failed to bag either trophy, Eula feels that it’s still a huge honor to be noticed by award-giving bodies. She said it inspired her to work harder.

“I know that I have to do better every time I’m given new projects,” she told members of the press in a recent pocket interview.

Eula understands that being an actress is more than just wearing fancy clothes and looking pretty. “There’s a lot of thinking involved. You have to be very wise,” she said. “That’s why I’m open to workshops and training.”

She added that she always tries to soak up everything she learns from her coactors. Some of the big stars she had the opportunity to work with were Maricel Soriano in “Yesterday” and Nora Aunor in the TV5 mini drama series “Sa Ngalan ng Ina.”

The precocious teen star pointed out that it’s important for her to find new ways to evolve and improve her acting, because the viewer’s taste changes through time. “The audience is smart these days. ’Di pwedeng puro iyak ka lang o paglulupasay,” she said.

While Eula always strives to be better, she admitted that there are days when she loses a bit of motivation. When that happens, Eula turns to her director, Mac Alejandre, whom she considers her mentor. The two worked together in  the series “Nandito Ako.”

“Nakaka-inspire kausap si Direk. I just talk to him and ask him for advice, and I instantly feel recharged,” she said.

Alejandre, for his part, has high praises for Eula, describing the Cebuana beauty as “talented, pretty and articulate. She has enough talent to hold her own.”

Asked what kind of roles would suit Eula, Alejandre—who currently heads TV5’s talent center—said that she sees the Cebuana beauty taking on a similar career path as Angel Locsin’s. “And I’m saying that with great authority because I’ve worked with Angel,” he said.
