Lady Gaga turns emotional in Manila concert

By

MANILA, Philippines—Lady Gaga played the roles of queen, warrior, goddess and sex symbol with theatrical flair on Monday, May 21 – the first of her two-night concerts at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

An appreciative crowd – which came in droves, almost filling up the newly-constructed venue – marveled at the elaborately designed stage with a medieval Gothic castle serving as the setting for the singer-songwriter’s wild vision of “the birth of a new race.”

There was drama in every part of the show, which opened with Lady Gaga riding a horse; in another instance she was on a motorcycle; but mostly she was all over the stage carousing with a cast of agile dancers and singing about standing up to authority and asserting one’s right to be free and happy.

She dared speak her mind out over the controversy stirred by her provocative image and songs – at one point mouthing expletives but later turning emotional and teary-eyed.

The concert had many highlights, but most striking was the moment when the star of the show emphatically said, “It’s not about the music, but about being yourself!”

The show may have exposed a lot of skin and simulated sex acts, but the moral crusaders and public officials who were there to find cause to punish Lady Gaga might have been too stunned to complain against the larger-than-life showcase of talent that unfolded.

The concert’s second day on Tuesday night, May 22, will push through, according to organizers.

To Moral Crusaders:  you do not have to look away from home to find people who commit lewd acts… look inside the churches where you will find priests molesting young boys….

¿Nangyayari ba yun sa lahát ng simbahan? Casí cung macapagsalitá cá parang ganún na ngâ.

      • AntiAko

This has happened in many, many churches in the Philippines. In fact I know of some priests who engage the services of boys and men. Kung hindi ka bulag at ikaw ay mapagmatyag, makikita mo…

      • http://alasfilipinas.blogspot.com/ Pepe Alas

I know it’s happening to many churches. Pero malinaw na malinaw ang tanóng có. ¿Nangyayari ba yun sa lahát ng simbahan? Casí cung macapagsalitá cá parang ganún na ngâ. It’s a simple YES or NO answer. Tsk.

      • AntiAko

does it have to happen in ALL catholic churches before you consider it a problem? what is your threshold before you accept the reality? 1%? 10%? 50%? or does it have to be 100%?

if there are cases inside the church that is because they are not straight, they are gays>The Pope is trying to cleaned it up…Church do not accept gay priest period.

      • http://alasfilipinas.blogspot.com/ Pepe Alas

And what makes you think that I do not consider that a problem? Goodness gracious. You couldn’t even back up your swagger. It’s just a simple YES or NO:

¿Nangyayari ba yun sa lahát ng simbahan? Casí cung macapagsalitá cá parang ganún na ngâ.It couldn’t be anymore simpler. I’m beginning to suspect that you’re stand is starting to crumble.

AntiAko is right!even if it’s just 0.000000001%,the fact that they are supposed to be “men of God” is not aceptable.even if 1 child is harmed out of a billion it is not acceptable.

      • http://alasfilipinas.blogspot.com/ Pepe Alas

Of course. But that is not my point. Read VERY CAREFULLY my case against his statement.

you don’t have to charge, if you have one then file a complaint and they will be brough to justice.Don’t justify someones fault by accusing others…roll in girl!!!

Why do you all point at the hypocrites, catholic priests, moral crusaders, etc.? if you are not a christian and you enjoy Lady Gaga acts, fine, its logical. But if you claim yourself a christian and still enjoy her acts, then the christianity you claim may not be so… wag na po tayong lumayo… tingnan na nlang natin mga sarili natin. alright?ü

    • Bakafighter

what act of her’s do you deem so unchristian, pray tell?doth mother know you weareth her drapes?hahaha

      • sandstorm914

I just saw one as of this time… lets see, a biker boy wearing a crown of thorns on his head and she rides behind him singing in a way that you should see for yourself. I don’t know what you call it but as for me, i’d say that is just a plain foolish mockery of Christ, the very God of Christianity. Most think that God is just like us humans, they have forgotten that he is a Holy God that should be treated with due respect. But then again, people perish for their lack of knowledge…

what’s up w/ the people in our country?! religious group are against her acts, i know her vids causes some ruckus about about tainting the image of God but you cannot judge her by just that. Even Jesus welcomes the sinners so they can be put right back on the track, and why us humans cast her away without hearing her first. Wake up people know your place first before you judge the others !

    • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/J4X5RZIRHCGVSXJWSH7DEFN6WI rodger66

we are not Jesus, he is only one…and we’ve heard a lot on her so judgement is well serve!

      • http://twitter.com/TaitaiIsMyAlias Cycy Albano

yes we are not Jesus, and yes we are humans, YES ONLY HUMANS, that’s his point why do we cast her away even if we r just humans we are not superior to anybody if and even if we heard a lot of judgement about her(she’s also human like US).UNLESS she has done something wrong to the people of the Philippines(physically). duh think dude.

Just about everything illicits protests in the Philippines nowadays. Protest this and protest that. But really, it doesn’t solve anything. And I don’t see how some people can make a big deal out of this matter. It’s just music. If some may interpret it differently than some do, so be it. It’s just the norm. Not everybody agrees about the same thing and that’s the real deal. People will want to believe in what they want to believe and listen to what they want to listen..I don’t think any amount of protesting will change that.

birth of new race?..my butt !!!..the church do not accept gay priest. If a crime is being committed in the church, it’s not becuse he is a priest but because he is gay.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/YMIKF56JOOO2XZNG2NZOAEIUUU Cool

indeed…. if there is something wrong in the church, it is not the church, but the people that run the church….. stilll  i find lady gaga talent wasted…. she could have done better if she offer herself to the faith, rather than to her belief to herself…. =(

  • Diepor

Freedom of speech is more important than some hurt feelings . I support Lady Gagas freedom to say/sing whatever she wants.
