Their latest movie must probably be a mirror of their personal lives, as Kapamilya actors Gerald Anderson and Arci Muńoz shared their thoughts on being friends with their exes.

It seemed that for this blockbuster team-up, internalizing their characters was not too hard, given their hard-earned love lessons to bank on.

Depende rin po kung pano kayo naghiwalay. Sa akin personally, sobrang importante siya, sobrang liit lang kasi ng mundo namin, pangit ‘yung iwas-iwas ka, ayaw mo makita ‘yung tao,” Anderson said yesterday at the press conference of their latest Star Cinema movie, “Can We Still Be Friends”.

(It depends on how you parted ways. To me, personally, that is very important. Our world is so small and it is not good if you will keep on avoiding someone because you don’t want to see her.)

Incidentally, the Kapamilya hunk is working again with ex-girlfriend and former on-screen partner Kim Chiu on their latest series, “Ikaw Lang and Iibigin”. It was because of this that the press people, and even Muńoz herself, asked him about his thoughts on being friends with an ex.

(Yes, generally I can say that I can be friends with my ex. That becomes [more] possible because of the show I’m doing now. It’s really a blessing because I had the chance to be in the company of my ex-girlfriend again. I really ask her about her life, just as I share about mine, too.)

Now, he proudly declares things are well between him and Chiu, although everything had to go through a process.

“Everytime na magkasama kami, nangangamusta kami. So, opo, kaya talaga, but it takes time.” he said.

(When we are together, we ask each other about how each one is doing. So, yes, being friends with an ‘ex’ can be done, but it takes time.)

However, being friends may not apply yet for another one of his ex-girlfriends, actress and Chiu’s former best friend, Maja Salvador. When asked about Salvador, Anderson reiterated his last statement: “It takes time.”

What made the earlier part of discussion even more interesting was how Muńoz introduced her character.

Ang role ko po dito, ang name ko po Kim. Wow! Ah hindi po Sam, ako po si Sam dito.” Muńoz joked.

(For my role here, my name is Kim. Wow! Oh no, I’m Sam here.)

Meanwhile, Muńoz also believes being friends with an ex-boyfriend is possible, but comes with certain precautions and boundaries.

Siguro para lang sa peace of mind kung iisipin mo ‘yung maidudulot niya sa sarili mo kasi anytime pwede kayo magkita, magkasalubong pero not necessarily na kailangan kayo maging friends. Kung pwede casual lang.”

(If only for one’s peace of mind, [yes it’s possible], and if you would think about the [positive] things it could do to you, [it’s okay], because it’s possible to come across each other anytime. But it does not necessarily mean that you should be friends. It’s possible to just be casual.)

Not too long ago, the 28-year-old actress confirmed her break-up with rock star Badi Del Rosario (who also happens to be the son of Brunei’s Prince Jefri Bolkiah). She had been open that moving on from their four-year relationship was not that easy.

Now, both Muñoz and Anderson are wiser in life and love. And with their new movie, the promising lead stars want everyone to ponder about their exes and ask the million-dollar question: can we really be friends with our exes? “Can We Still Be Friends” will hit theaters starting June 14. JB
