Arci Munoz’ latest reunion movie with Gerald Anderson looks like a cut from her real life story as she reveals she has been “friendzoned” by her ex-boyfriend.

Her upcoming Star Cinema movie, “Can We Still Be friends?” relates to her own personal story as the actress admitted how close the film’s story line was to her relationship with an ex-boyfriend.

“Kanina nung kinukwento nila, sabi ko love story ko pala ito (Earlier when they were telling us about it [movie’s story line] I told myself, this is my story),” she said.

“Ngayon, yung nangyayari sa akin ngayon mismo, yung present love life ko talaga ngayon, [ganun yung movie],” she told reporters at the story conference of her movie on Tuesday.

(Now, what’s happening to me at present, the state of my love life right now, that’s what exactly the movie is about.)

She unabashedly revealed that she was “friendzoned.”

“Friendzoned na nga ako. Basta huwag na nating pag-usapan ‘yung akin, ‘yung movie na lang. Kapag napanood niyo ‘yung movie, ‘yun ang nangyayari sa present ko. Baka umiyak ako eh,” she said.

(I was friendzoned. Let’s just not talk about my story, just the movie. If you watch it, that’s exactly what’s happening to me. I might cry.)

As she had just ended her relationship with her ex-boyfriend, local rock artist Badi del Rosario, she was then asked if she believes one can be friends with an ex.

“Sa estado ko ngayon, depende. Pero sa ngayon kasi sinasabi nila na kung kaya mo makipagkaibigan sa ex mo, it’s either mahal mo pa siya or never mo siya minahal. Sa ngayon, ayaw ko sagutin talaga,” she said.

(In my current state, it depends. But as of now, well as they say, if you can be friends with your ex, it’s either you still love him or you never loved him at all. As of now, I really don’t want to answer that yet.)

It was at this point that co-star Gerald Anderson helped explain that situations vary in every relationship.

“Siyempre hindi agad-agad ‘yan. Ang dami niyong pinagdaanan tapos kapag nag-break kayo, hindi naman pwedeng agad-agad. It takes time. Depende sa break up, depende sa sitwasyon. Oras talaga, time heals everything,” he said.

(Of course it’s not easy. After what you have both gone through in a relationship, when you break up you can’t get over it too quickly. It takes time. It depends on the breakup, on the situation. Time really matters, time heals everything.)

Despite the movie’s plot, Muñoz said she did not think twice in accepting the project, especially when she learned she would be working with Anderson again.

“Para sa akin, sobra akong naging komportable sa kanya sa ‘Always Be My Maybe’ so nung sinabing siya ulit, ang saya ko. Happy set kasi kami noon. I wouldn’t mind doing it again,” she said.

(I became very comfortable with him [Gerald Anderson] in “Always Be My Maybe.” So when I was told that I’d be working with him again, I was happy. We were a happy set then.)

Both actors are now looking forward to start out their reunion project as the movie is “very relatable,” said Anderson.

“It’s a simple movie about a relationship. Ganun talaga ang brand namin ni Arci, team relate kami [because the people can relate] lalo na dito sa movie na ito. Kinukuwento pa lang nila kanina, meron ng isa sa amin ang parang nakaka-relate na. Sobrang excited kami gawin para mapanood na ng mga tao,” he said.

(It’s basically our [Muñoz and Anderson] brand, we are “team relate,” especially in this movie. As they were telling us the story line, one of us already seemed to be able to relate. We are very excited to make the film so people can watch it soon.) /ra
