Being a superwoman’s daughter
I will spend eternity thanking the esteemed deans and professors from various universities who comprise Gawad Tanglaw, especially Jaime Ang, Teresita Bagalso, Norman Llaguno and Flaviano Lirio for my Hall of Fame Award (best entertainment columnist for five years in a row). Kudos to them for a well-attended affair at Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Calamba, Laguna. I must say it feels great to be a “Teacher’s Pet,” the Gawad Tanglaw way.
Thanks more than words can say to my Inquirer family for standing by me through all the controversies … to my Cinema Evaluation Board family and TV 5 “Ang Latest” family for being behind me no matter what … to my loyal readers for their unwavering support … to celebrities for trusting me with their stories, and to my kids, Bianchi and IC, who are my major source of inspiration.
How I wish my mom were still around so I could dedicate my award to her personally. Thank you, Ma, for teaching me well. And thank You, Lord, for helping me find the right words amid the show biz circus where it’s often hard to tell what’s real and what’s not. I remember my Ma used to tell me that show biz could be so cruel and ungrateful. But moments like my Hall of Fame win make me glad that I grew up in this maddening, wonderful industry.
Allow me to pay homage to my late great mom, who paved the way for me and so many other entertainment writers/TV hosts. Even now that she’s gone, people who recognize me wherever I go usually say “Uy! Anak ni Inday, o!” I can’t help smiling every time I hear that.
It only goes to show that my mom left a permanent dent in people’s hearts.

Here are some “Inday Badidayisms” from my superwoMOM. Till our next “Eye to Eye” moment. Saranghamnida, Ma!
Don’t keep track of what your competitors are up to. If you keep looking their way, they will overtake you before you know it. Just focus on your own path and do what you do best.
When a job is offered to you, you don’t have to be an expert at it right away. Be willing to learn on the job. As long as you are interested, everything else will follow.
At first you have to work more and be paid less. But if you love what you do, one day you’ll get to the point where you’ll be working less and making more.
Look at how a guy treats his mom. That’s how he will treat you eventually.
When you are trying to find out who’s telling the truth … the one who says less and doesn’t beat around the bush is the one to believe.
Lahat ng gusot, may lusot (There’s a way out of every mess)!
Even if some people you helped duped you, don’t mind it. Your help didn’t go to waste as long as you see their kids/families are okay.
Don’t believe everything the stars say. Always try to dig deeper.
When you are upset with someone, ask yourself why it should matter. You won’t spend the rest of your life with that person anyway.
Be wary of people you don’t know … but be even more wary of people you know too well.
Make sure that when you decide to end a relationship, you still have your self-respect intact. Don’t wait for when you are already devastated before you call it quits.
What you do to your parents … your kids will do to you too someday.
Even the falling of a leaf has a reason.
Be thankful … for even the smallest of blessings.
Don’t cry over a guy … who’s not crying over you.
Go with the winners.
It’s the little people you meet along the way … that will make the biggest difference in your life.
