TOURIST destination in Bicol is a melting pot of cultures and traditions.

MASBATE CITY—Upon the invitation of the Masbate tourism office, I joined Maloli Espinosa Supnet to check out new destinations for my Photo Safari.

We met Judge Sese of La Fortaleza de San Juan on a 75-hectare cattle ranch on rolling hills that has 450 animals. He and other ranchers plan to put up a Rodeo Academy.

Marine sanctuary

Our other destinations: The aquaculture project of Mayor Socrates Tuason that grows bangus (milkfish) fingerlings. Further away is Buntod, the city’s first marine sanctuary, and a good diving site. The Pawa Mangrove Nature Park is a 300-hectare plantation.

Masbate City’s tiangge is a 4-km stretch of vendors peddling fruits, vegetables and furniture during weekends. The Bayots’ ancestral house is a must-see for its antique collection.
