Musician Eddie Munji dies of heart attack

MANILA, Philippines—Guitarist Eddie Munji III died of massive heart attack past 7 p.m. Sunday at Queen Mary Help of Christians Hospital in Cardona, Rizal, his niece Max confirmed on Twitter.

His remains will be brought to Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City on Monday.

Munji was the musical arranger of “Mahirap Magmahal ng Syota ng Iba” and many other hits of the Apo Hiking Society. His album “Pinoy Jazz” helped define contemporary local music in the 1970s.

Munji also arranged Bong Gabriel’s “Ang Aking Awitin,” a finalist in the 2nd Metropup Music Festival in 1979.
