Anne Curtis emotional as she recalls late dad’s words about Vic del Rosario
Anne Curtis could not hold back her tears when she remembered the promise Viva Chairman and CEO Vic del Rosario made to her late father, James Curtis-Smith.
The actress-TV host talked to the members of the press during her thanksgiving media conference on Thursday, June 18. Among the topics discussed at the event — organized by Viva Artist Agency to celebrate Anne’s 29th year in the industry — was her working relationship with del Rosario.
“Ang sinasabi lang niya sa akin, ‘Mabait ka. Lagi kang mabait,’ which is naano ko naman. I practically grew up with Ninong Vic. Para na siyang daddy ko,” she said.
(What he always tells me is, “Be kind always,” which I tried to do. I practically grew up with Ninong Vic. He’s like a father to me.)
“One thing he told my dad…” she continued as she started tearing up. “Sorry, I just remembered my dad. I’ll never forget what he told my dad, ‘I promise I will make your daughter into a star.’ And my dad was eternally grateful to Boss Vic.”
Anne lamented that her late father and del Rosario never got the chance to reunite. She also noted that they were even planning a contract-signing event that would have been a perfect opportunity for the two to meet again.
“I know Ninong Vic wanted to do a contract signing kasi we’re gonna renew — even if I don’t need to renew with them because obviously, my loyalty will always be with Viva. But it would have been a great reunion with Ninong Vic and my family. Suddenly my dad passed away early this year so…,” she said.
She further underscored how del Rosario and Viva never gave up on her, even during her early years when she was still struggling to speak in Filipino.
“One of the few things my dad told me was that, ‘He (Vic) kept his promise.’ And here I am 29 years later, I’m still here.”
Aside from del Rosario, Anne acknowledged as well other core members of Viva whom she treats as her family.
“Thank you for staging this for me. Super na-appreciate ko ‘yung (I really apprecaite the) love and support for 29 years. I’m looking forward to many more years with you, guys,” she stated.
“The start of this year was very hard for me but I am so excited for what the rest of the year has in store,” she said. “I’m so excited to create many more memories in this industry as an actress, host and as your Dyosa.”

When asked what more she wants to achieve in her career, Anne spoke about her dream of attending the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
“Feel ko naman walang time limit ‘yun. Even when you’re in your 60s or 70s, kaya pa. Ilalaban natin ‘yan,” she remarked. /ra
