Robin Padilla attended the advance screening of his comeback action film “Bad Boy 3” on Thursday night, June 4, at a mall in Cubao, hours after figuring in a commotion with Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla at the Senate premises.

Earlier in the day, Remulla and senators Padilla and Pia Cayetano were involved in a commotion before the start of a flood control hearing led by the lawmakers’ bloc. The confrontation escalated into what appeared to be a brief shove between the officials.

Despite the political tension, Padilla appeared all smiles and relaxed during the post-screening question-and-answer session for “Bad Boy 3,” where he reflected on the difference between showbiz and politics.

“Sa totoo lang po mas masaya po sa showbiz kesa politika, malayong malayo po. Iba ang ligaya po sa shooting,” he said when asked about his memorable moments behind the scenes of the movie.

Known for his long-running “Bad Boy” image in Philippine cinema, Padilla was also asked whether he still wanted to carry the “bad boy” label in politics.

“Naku, mahirap ’yon,” he said, referring to the ‘bad boy’ label in politics. Going back to the ‘bad boy’ image in showbiz, he said, “Ipapamana ko na po ito sa ‘Bad Boy 4,’ sa mas batang artista. I-introduce na po natin.”

The actor-politician also spoke about the pressures of public service, saying politics carries a “heavier burden” compared to entertainment work.

“Iba talaga itsura ko pag politika. Pag politika siyempre, talagang dala mo ’yung problema ng bayan, iba yung bigat,” he said.

“Showbiz, masarap eh. Kasi nag-i-entertain kayo ng tao, masaya yung tao. Malayo siya. Kasi sa politika, iba eh. Iba talaga yung bigat niya. Bigat talaga sa balikat,” he added.

Padilla asserted that people respond differently to politicians compared to celebrities.

“Pag pupunta ka sa political event, hindi gano’n ka-warm ang tao. Tinitingnan ka, sinusukat ka. Pag ka-showbiz event, iba eh. Nagyayakap ka ng tao,” he explained.

During the Q&A, Padilla also explained why it took more than a decade for “Bad Boy 3” to be completed.

“Nag umpisa po kami nito 2014. Bigla po kasi yung aking paboritong kandidato nanalong presidente,” he said, referring to former president Rodrigo Duterte, who is now detained in The Hague, Netherlands, for his alleged crimes against humanity related to extrajudicial killings during his “war on drugs.”

“Kaya nung nanalo po siyang presidente, anim na taon po ‘yon. Masyado po kaming nag-concentrate sa kaniya. Kaya hindi po talaga ako nagkaroon ng panahon noon para makapagtrabaho,” continued Padilla.

The actor-politician added that he only managed to continue filming during Senate recess periods because of his “political responsibilities,” as he teased that there are more showbiz projects waiting for him.
