Marina Summers laments transphobia, death threats after MUPH hosting stint

Marina Summers revealed she has been receiving death threats, on top of transphobic remarks, after her hosting stint at the recently held 2026 Miss Universe Philippines coronation night.
The drag queen spoke up about the matter on her Facebook page on Wednesday, May 6, days after the pageant finals on Saturday, May 2.
It can be noted that her performance as the event’s host drew mixed reactions, with some praising her and others pointing out how she supposedly lacked energy.
“Hosting Miss Universe Philippines 2026 has been one of the greatest milestones of my career and my life. And while I understand that there will be different opinions and some resistance to it, I did not expect the vile and alarming amount of transphobia, hate and even death threats thrown at me,” she said.
Summers also addressed the harassment directed at her fellow drag performer Angel Galang, who earlier criticized the latter’s hosting performance for being “boring.”
She underscored that while she was hurt by Galang’s remark—which the latter had already apologized for—she does not condone the hate being thrown at the latter.
Summer’s statement came after Galang revealed receiving death threats as well after she aired her opinion on the former’s hosting gig.
“This is not what I stand for. This NEEDS TO STOP,” Summers said. “Sa lahat ng trabaho at success na pinaghirapan natin, dala-dala ko ang pag-asa na iaangat nito ang pagtanggap sa LGBTQIA+.”
“While I was admittedly hurt by her statements, I do not condone any hurtful and hateful words thrown at her because of it. Huwag itong gamiting excuse para manira ng kapwa. It just sets us back and everything we’ve worked so hard for just loses its meaning,” she added.
Summers further underscored that everyone is entitled to their opinion, as she called on her supporters to spread kindness.
“Angel and I were able to resolve things privately. Let’s give her space and understanding,” she further clarified. “Maraming salamat sa pag-unawa.”
Prior to this, Marina earned praises from fellow transwoman Kaladkaren, who thanked the drag queen for representing the LGBTQIA+ community on the Miss Universe Philippines stage.
