Enrique Gil says ‘not that in touch’ with Liza Soberano, ready for new love
Enrique Gil said he and his former actress girlfriend Liza Soberano do not communicate as often anymore, although he underscored that his respect for her remains the same.
Gil spoke about this as he looked back on his love team and real-life romance with the actress, in an interview with broadcast journalist Karen Davila on Monday, April 27.
“I would say we’re not that in touch but we’re in touch still at times, especially when important things happen in our lives. Maybe just to check on each other,” he said when asked about their friendship.
“I mean, my life is here and hers is there. I just wish her all the best of course, and I really hope everything works out for her there,” he stated, referring to Soberano’s Hollywood career. “But yeah, we’re not just as in touch as before.”
Gil further noted that while they are both busy with their respective careers, they will always have love for each other as they grew up together.
“I think the respect will always be there. I think we’ll always have some sort of love for each other because we basically grew up together. That’s how we are,” he remarked.
“She described me as her childhood best friend, and I also consider her that. She was my childhood sweetheart,” he said. “We had some really, really great memories and I’m just really thankful for all those memories.”
During the interview, Gil was then asked about his outlook on love and declared that he is ready to love again.
“Yeah. I think I’ve been so closed out for such a long time and I always keep my heart open,” he said. “That’s life — you just keep moving forward. I just trust in God that whatever comes my way — if He thinks that that’s the person, then so be it.”
Gil also confessed that he has been “talking to people” sometime after his split with Soberano. “It’s important. Mahirap ding mag-isa e.”
Gil and Soberano’s breakup was confirmed in 2025 after months of speculation. Meanwhile, Gil had since been romantically linked to actress Franki Russell and young content creator Andrea Brown. /ra
