Enrique Gil on ‘refreshing’ team-up with Andrea Brillantes in ‘A Secret in Prague’
Working with a leading lady is nothing new for Enrique Gil, though his team-up with Andrea Brillantes in “A Secret in Prague” is a refreshing experience since it’s their first time leading a romance drama.
“It feels good. It feels okay and alright. Actually, before the loveteam, sanay na po ako na lagi po akong usually pine-pair sa ibang actresses (I’m used to being paired with different actresses),” Gil said of his partnership with Brillantes.
In the romance drama, Gil stars as Mikoy Pinagpala, a waiter who falls in love with a wealthy heiress named Chiara Valtrovi (Brillantes) in the picturesque Prague, Czech Republic. He soon discovers that Chiara’s family is more than just a wealthy clan that holds darker secrets, possibly putting his family at risk.
According to Gil, plans for “A Secret in Prague” — which his production company, Slingshot Studios, co-produced — went on for two years before finally kicking off.
“I was super excited because this project has been going on for a couple of years. To finally start and all hands on deck, especially with this wonderful cast, parang hindi totoo. I’m just really thankful and grateful to everybody responsible for this show,” he said.
Also part of the production team are people whom the actor worked with while growing up, which made the project more meaningful for him. “I grew up na kasama sila, so parang isang malaking reunion din po para sa akin ‘yun.”
Touching on their filming experience in Prague, Brillantes admitted that while she initially enjoyed the snowy weather, she and Gil would do “boxing motions” to fight the cold while saying their lines.
“Hirap na akong magsalita, parehas kaming nabubulol [dahil] sa lamig. Nanginginig na kasi kami,” she recalled. “Ang ginagawa ko na lang, nagbo-boxing [na lang] kami kapag malamig na para uminit ang katawan namin. I was supposed to be like Elsa [of ‘Frozen’], where the cold never bothered me anyway, but the cold bothered me.”

“A Secret in Prague” also stars Kim Domingo, Cedrick Juan, K Brosas, Ruben Maria Soriquez, Edu Manzano, Arlene Muhlach, and Joel Torre.
The romance drama is currently streaming on Netflix, and will air on TV5 starting April 27. /edv
