Eric Quizon eyes Dolphy biopic focusing on comedian’s final weeks

Eric Quizon revealed plans to develop a biographical film about his late father, Dolphy, centering on the final weeks leading up to the screen legend’s death.
Quizon bared the plans during his April 10 appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” saying he is currently discussing the project with actress-director Bibeth Orteza, who authored Dolphy’s 2008 autobiography “Dolphy: Hindi Ko Ito Mararating Mag-isa.”
“I want to. I’ve been planning with Bibeth Orteza. Sinabi ko sa kaniya, parang gusto kong encapsulated from the time he was brought to the hospital and until the time that he died,” Quizon said.
The actor-director shared that the planned biopic aims to shed light on what their family went through during his father’s final five weeks.
“Parang marami hindi nakakaalam ‘yung ordeal ng family at that time and I think it’s a beautiful story because from the time that I asked for prayers, parang nakinig ang buong Pilipinas,” he said.
“I was a miracle that whenever I would say that, I would pray, gumagaling siya, dumidilat ang mata, lumalakas siya. So sa family namin, parang it was a great time na we were spending those precious last few days of my dad with us,” Quizon added.
Dolphy, widely regarded as the country’s “King of Comedy,” died on July 10, 2012, at the age of 83 due to multiple organ failure. He is buried at the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City.
Dolphy rose to fame for his iconic works such as “Markova: The Comfort Gay,” “John en Marsha,” “Home along da Riles” and “Wanted: Perfect Father,” among others.
Last year, Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua formally asked the House of Representatives to nominate Dolphy for the Order of National Artists when the secretariat opens its next call for nominations.
The lawmaker asked that the Quizon family be invited to provide inputs regarding this possible nomination. /ra
