Heart Evangelista said she initially “felt uncomfortable” after Ate Gay disclosed to the public that she helped him financially, although the actress underscored that she nonetheless appreciates the latter’s gesture to show his gratitude.

Ate Gay, or Gil Aducal Morales, revealed in his recent “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” interview that Evangelista has provided him with monthly financial support for his medical treatments for cancer.

The actress-fashion influencer spoke about this during her interview in the same show on Thursday, April 9.

“Actually, nagulat ako nung binanggit niya kasi we’ve never met, like, after and never kaming nag-usap talaga,” Evangelista said, adding that Morales did not know that it was her who helped him.

(Actually, I was surprised when he mentioned it because we’ve never met — like, after that, and we never really talked at all.)

Evangelista also noted that it was her assistant who communicated with Morales.

“For me, it’s sad but — there’s always going to be color in whatever we do as public people. But my points in heaven are far more important,” she continued, seemingly explaining why she initially opted not to make public the help she extended to Morales.

“Thankful ako na wala akong binubuhay na pamilya talaga — may anak ako pero technically ang responsibilidad ko ay ‘yung sarili ko e,” she stated. “I do what I do because I have my own goals in life.”

(I’m thankful that I don’t really have a family to support — yes, I have children, but technically my responsibility is myself. I do what I do because I have my own goals in life.)

Evangelista then turned emotional as she opened up about how Morales’ gesture touched her.

“I felt uncomfortable na sinabi niya pero salamat din kasi iba pa rin pala marinig na nagpapasalamat ‘yung mga tao. Kasi, most of the time, people don’t really know it’s me. I really appreciate it,” she said.

“Never ko na-confirm sa kanya (Morales) na ako ‘yun e, so na-touch ako,” she added. “I work hard not just for me but for a purpose and for me to write a story that would be so great to read one day when I’m no longer here.”

(I felt uncomfortable when she said it, but I was also thankful because it’s still different hearing people express gratitude. Most of the time, people don’t really know it’s me. I really appreciate it,” she said.

“I never confirmed to her (Morales) that it was me, so I was touched,” she added. “I work hard not just for myself but for a purpose, and so I can write a story that would be great to read one day when I’m no longer here.”

Morales has been diagnosed with mucoepidermoid squamous cell carcinoma, a rare type of cancer. He underwent chemotherapy and radiation therapy for his condition, and declared in 2025 that his health had since improved and that he was already fit to work. /ra
