PH to join inaugural Asian edition of Eurovision Song Contest

The Philippines has been confirmed as one of the countries joining the inaugural edition of the Eurovision Song Contest Asia, with Bangkok, Thailand, serving as the Host City.

The Asian iteration of the Eurovision Song Contest was announced by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Voxovation in a launch event on Tuesday, March 31. Also part of the launch were Thailand’s media giant Channel 3 and production company S2O Productions.

Other Asian countries competing in the first edition, as of this writing, are Thailand, South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. More countries will be announced in the coming days.

According to Eurovision Song Contest director Martin Green, the singing competition was brought to Asia to celebrate its 70th anniversary.

“It feels especially meaningful to open this next chapter with Asia, a region rich in culture, creativity, and talent,” he said. This is about evolving the show together with Asia, building something that reflects the voices, identities, and ambitions of the region, while staying true to what has always made the contest special.”

Meanwhile, Voxovation CEO and co-founder Peter Settman said the inaugural Eurovision Asia is built to showcase the best talent in the region while “reflecting Asia’s identity and creative energy.”

“Together with S2O Productions, we are shaping a show where artists and fans connect across borders in new ways, through participation, community, and deeper engagement beyond the stage, with ZOOP helping bring that fan experience to life,” he said.

“To bring this incredible show to a new continent is something very special. I look forward to millions of people in Asia watching the competition and singing in front of the TV, dancing to the performances, and predicting the outcome,” he continued.

The grand finals are scheduled for November 14 in Bangkok, with ABS-CBN serving as the official broadcast partner for Filipino viewers.

Further details on the contestants per country are yet to be revealed.

While the Philippines is known for producing world-class singers, its reputation was further strengthened by Filipino-Austrian singer Johannes Pietsch (or JJ), who won the 69th Eurovision Song Contest in Switzerland in May 2025. He is Austria’s third winner in the singing competition.
