Jisoo’s K-drama ‘Boyfriend on Demand’ spotlights the beauty of Cebu
The picturesque beauty of Cebu was one of the highlights in the romcom “Boyfriend on Demand,” where Seo Mi-rae (Blackpink’s Jisoo) dreamed that she was exploring the tropical paradise.
Cebu was featured as one of the tourist spots in “Boyfriend on Demand” — which premiered on Netflix on March 6 — showing Mi-rae looking back at her summer getaway in the island destination.
The first few minutes of episode one showed Mi-rae, a webtoon designer, riding the train after a busy day at work. After putting on her headphones, she imagines herself enjoying the beauty of Cebu.
The scene showed the country’s tourism slogan, “Love the Philippines,” clips of the beach resort, and staff warmly greeting her as they brought tropical margaritas and coconut drinks.
“Last summer in the Philippines was the best. I wish I could go swimming. When is summer coming?” she said.
Mi-rae snaps back into reality after encountering a giggling kid with chocolate all over her face.
The sixth episode returns to the local tourist destination where Mi-rae was joined by her officemate Park Kyeong-nam (Seo In-guk), where they explored more of the crystal clear waters and the beach’s white sand.
Parts of the K-drama were filmed at the Bluewater Maribago Beach Resort, Shangri-La Mactan, and other tourist-lined streets in Cebu, according to the Department of Tourism and the resort’s Facebook pages.
It remains unknown when the scenes were filmed, but Jisoo and Seo were reportedly spotted together at the local tourist destination sometime in February 2025. Neither Netflix nor the K-drama’s creators have discussed when the filming took place.
“Boyfriend on Demand” follows Seo Mi-rae, who turns to a boyfriend-simulation app after growing tired of her mundane life as a webtoon producer. She then meets various virtual boyfriends crafted from her ideal date-night spots and the qualities of a dream guy.
As much as she enjoys meeting different guys, Mi-rae finds herself drawn to Kyeong-nam, ultimately struggling to draw a line between her reality as a webtoon producer and her desire to enjoy her life in the virtual world. /edv
