Kaye Abad in isolation after being diagnosed with viral illness herpangina

Kaye Abad has isolated herself at her home for several days now after she contracted herpangina, a viral illness that is similar to hand, foot and mouth disease.
Herpangina, as per Cleveland Clinic, is a contagious illness that causes high fever and blister-like sores in the mouth and throat.
The actress spoke about her condition through a video on her Facebook page on Saturday, Feb. 28, in which she was seen with a partly swollen mouth.
“I’ve been isolating myself from the family for three days now. Nag-Manila ako nung weekend. On the way there, I think I got it sa airport or sa plane,” said Abad, who is based in Cebu.
“At first, the symptoms were—day one and day two I had fever, no appetite,” she continued, noting how she was very weak and that she just lay down in bed for two whole days.
Abad said she initially thought she had dengue as she was also experiencing joint pain. However, she began having mouth sores on the third day, which led her to think that she had foot and mouth disease.
“But when I showed the doctor the picture, especially my throat and the positions of the mouth sores, he said it’s herpangina,” she stated. “It’s more or less the same family as hand, foot, and mouth disease, except herpangina is walang rashes sa hands and sa feet.”
Abad said she has been having a hard time talking and eating because of the mouth sores on her cheeks, hence she has been only taking oatmeal and juices.
Concluding the video, Abad reminded the public to keep safe to prevent contracting the illness.
“It’s very hard. Masakit siya, guys. I hope I’ll be better,” she said.
Abad, nonetheless, appears to be recovering well as she showed herself working out in separate Facebook posts on Tuesday, March 3. /ra
