Bea Alonzo drops cyber libel case vs Cristy Fermin, two others

Bea Alonzo has decided to put an end to the nearly two-year legal battle against Cristy Fermin after she withdrew the cyber libel case she had filed against the latter and her co-hosts.
In a statement released by her legal counsel, Garcia Elauria Ruanto & Associates, on Friday, Feb. 13, Alonzo confirmed her decision to drop the case against Fermin and her two co-hosts in the YouTube program “Showbiz Now Na,” Wendell Alvarez and Romel Villamor.
“After two years of legal proceedings & with the case pending before the Regional Trial Court, this matter has run its course under the law. The process has not been easy for any party involved. It has required accountability, reflection & fortitude,” the statement read.
The lawyers explained Alonzo’s decision was “neither an act of retreat nor concession,” but rather “an act of resolve, anchored in forgiveness,” as the actress intends to focus on her advocacies.
“Upon deep reflection, Ms. Alonzo has chosen to forgive. Not out of weakness but out of strength. Not to erase what was done, but to free herself from a cycle of harm & hostility that no longer serves her life or her purpose,” the statement continued.
“She views this chapter not as something to carry forward but as something to close, with grace, dignity & peace. Moving forward, Ms. Alonzo wishes to focus on what truly matters: her work, her advocacies & her role as a woman who uplifts others, particularly those navigating their own silent battles,” it added.
Fermin and her co-hosts earlier issued a public apology to Alonzo, expressing regret over their actions and maintaining that there was no intention to defame or harm the actress.
At the time, the trio also committed to refraining from further commentary that could cast Alonzo in a negative light as they thanked the actress for her understanding and forgiveness.
“To Ms. Alonzo, we extend our gratitude. We are hopeful that we can both move on from this chapter with a renewed understanding and mutual respect. Thank you to everyone for your understanding and for giving us the chance to rectify our unintended shortcomings,” read their statement.
In May 2024, Alonzo filed the cyber libel complaint against Fermin and her co-hosts, alleging that false and malicious claims about her were aired on their online program.
In July 2025, the Quezon City Regional Trial Court issued warrants of arrest against Fermin and two co-respondents. The following month, they each posted bail amounting to P48,000. /ra
