Karen Davila apologizes after live TV name mix-up: ‘Tao lang po nagkakamali’

News anchor Karen Davila apologized after a brief on-air mistake of saying her own name instead of her namesake Karen de Guzman who was reporting live broadcast, as seen in the “TV Patrol” episode Tuesday night, Feb. 10.
During the episode, Davila was introducing a report about a robbery. Instead of naming de Guzman, Davila mistakenly said her own name.
Part of her spiel went: “Nagpa-Patrol, Karen Davila. Ay, Karen de Guzman!” (Reporting for Patrol, Karen Davila. Oh, Karen de Guzman!) as she immediately corrected herself on air.
Shortly after the broadcast, Davila addressed the slip on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “OMG… ay… Karen De Guzman! Apologies [smiling face with sweat emoji].”
The TV anchor also posted a separate message on Facebook, saying: “Tao lang po nagkakamali. Kaya ko pa, mga dear! Tuesday pa lang naman.” (People make mistakes. I can still do this, my dears! It’s only Tuesday).
Following the viral moment, de Guzman then took to Facebook to reveal that she was actually named after Davila as she shared a clip where they exchanged “Karen to Karen” during live news reports.
The moment quickly circulated on social media. Some netizens teased Davila for being able to multitask as news anchor and field reporter, while others joked, asking which Karen was being referred to with options: A. Davila B. De Guzman and C. Carpenters.
Some users even linked the incident to the long-viral moment of former actress Karen delos Reyes with comedian Bobay, who mistakenly called the former “Karen delos Santos,” which eventually led to a seemingly heated yet meme-worthy interaction.
Davila also figured in another light on-air mishap in October 2024 when she accidentally passed behind co-anchor Noli de Castro while he was delivering the program’s opening headline.
After noticing herself on the studio monitor, she quickly stepped back out of frame. De Castro later shared a snippet of the incident after the newscast, teasing Davila. /edv
