Why Kris Bernal, Aljur Abrenica’s relationship never went from reel to real

Even though Kris Bernal and Aljur Abrenica’s loveteam was a hit, Bernal said they didn’t take their onscreen partnership to the next level since they’re too different from each other. Still, Abrenica tried to court her back then.
Bernal spoke of her onscreen partnership with Abrenica in a “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” interview on Friday, January 16, when asked why they didn’t date back then.
“Hindi ko naging ex si Aljur eh… parang hindi kami magkasundo talaga. Hindi kami mag-jive ng ugali eh (Aljur never became an ex. We would never get along. We don’t have the same personality),” she said.
Abunda then asked the actress if Abrenica had tried to woo her in the past, which she said he had, but maybe it was because they had always spent time together back then.
“Meron naman [siguro kasi] lagi kaming magkasama. Kahit i-try [namin]. Na-try naman pero hindi talaga nagkasundo,” she said. “Kasi lagi kami magkasama everyday talaga, siguro mga two months, three months [siya nanligaw]. Hindi talaga kami magkaugali.”
(There was an attempt, maybe it’s because we were always together. We tried it. But our personalities never jived together. We were always together every day. He tried to woo me for about two to three months, but we didn’t have anything in common.)
Known collectively as AlKris, Bernal and Abrenica’s tandem was a hit from the 2000s to the 2010s. Some of their hit projects include the Philippine adaptation of “Coffee Prince” and “The Last Prince.”
The loveteam recently caught the attention of netizens after they reunited on the set of “TiktoClock,” days after Bernal admitted that Abrenica hasn’t been speaking to her. Based on the clip, it seems like all is well between them and they are ready to resume their friendship.
Bernal, who made her teleserye comeback with “House of Lies,” is currently married to her non-showbiz partner Perry Choi. Meanwhile, Abrenica is in a relationship with AJ Raval. /edv
