Sisters Anne Curtis and Jasmine Curtis-Smith are mourning the death of their father, James E. Curtis-Smith, whom they described as a “true patriarch in every sense.”

In a joint Instagram post on Wednesday, Jan. 7, Anne confirmed the “unexpected yet peaceful” passing of their father, without disclosing the cause of death.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected yet peaceful passing of our father, James E. Curtis-Smith,” read the statement. “A true patriarch in every sense, he shaped us with strength, resilience, and a wit that will forever echo in our family.”

In 2023, James was treated to a beach getaway in La Union for his 80th birthday. “We all made the jump to celebrate Dad’s 80th in La Union. Happy birthday to our gentle giant,” wrote Anne at the time, alongside a video of their family swimming.

In 2018, Anne asked the public for prayers for her dad who, at the time, got hospitalized for an undisclosed condition. At that time, the actress-host shared that her father had to undergo an operation.

James was one of the World War II veterans. He was a lawyer and former officer of the Royal Australian Navy. /edv
