Ai Ai delas Alas sells engagement, wedding rings as ‘closure’

Ai Ai delas Alas has sold her engagement and wedding rings from her estranged husband, Gerald Sibayan, as part of giving herself closure following their controversial separation.

Delas Alas’ visit to collector-vlogger Boss Toyo’s museum in Quezon City was featured in the latest episode of “Pinoy Pawnstars” on YouTube. 

The actress-comedian shared that the wedding ring she was selling was the third one Sibayan had given her, as she accidentally lost the previous two, something she later took as a sign. 

The rings, kept in a red jewelry box, were sold together. While Delas Alas initially asked for P350,000, Boss Toyo purchased the items for P250,000. 

Delas Alas explained that she sold the rings because she wanted to turn the “pain into hope” as proceeds from the sale would benefit Life Saver, an organization that aids cancer patients. 

“Para may closure na rin kasi bukod sa ayaw ko na ring maalala, maganda ‘yung closure kasi may kapupuntahan siyang maganda. ‘Yung pain, gagawin kong pag-asa,” she expressed.

(This is also like a closure because I don’t want to remember it as well anymore, closure is good because it has a beautiful destination. I’ll turn the pain into hope.)

“Ayaw ko na rin maging bitter. Naiintindihan ko na bata pa siya at magbabago pa siya. Pero may isang bagay lang akong hindi nagustuhan kaya naghiwalay kami,” added the actress. 

(I don’t want to be bitter anymore. I understand that he’s still young and he’ll change. But there was just one thing I didn’t like, so we broke up.)

Delas Alas confirmed her separation from Sibayan in October 2024 after seven years of marriage. They share an almost 30-year age gap.

At the time, the actress said that the latter broke up with her through an online messaging application. She later alluded to a cheater and a mistress, although she did not delve into any more details. 

The “Tanging Ina” actress also revoked Sibayan’s green card, which coincided with her filing for divorce. Asked about her love life now, Delas Alas said she is currently single. /edv
