Ralph de Leon, Vince Maristela on green joke issue in ‘PBB’: ‘Nakakalungkot’

As “Pinoy Big Brother (PBB)” alums, Ralph de Leon and Vince Maristela didn’t hesitate to give their two cents on the issue regarding Iñigo Jose, Lee Victor, and Miguel Vergara making inappropriate jokes towards the female housemates.
In recent episodes of “PBB: Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0,” Jose, Victor, Vergara, and other male housemates were called out for making inappropriate or green jokes towards them, particularly, the remark “GYAB” or “Girl, your *** thick.”
The female housemates — led by Krystal Mejes — called them out for their remarks where they stressed that they do not want to be “objectified.”
On the Dec. 11 episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” de Leon admitted that they were disappointed with the male teen housemates as well, reiterating that they need to be mindful of one’s boundaries, especially when it comes to interacting with women.
“Hindi lang po bilang ex-PBB housemate, bilang lalaki din po. Nakakalungkot po. Nakakalungkot talaga. I mean, whether you are living in the same house, or in the same area with another woman, it shouldn’t be like that,” de Leon said.
“Nakakalungkot siya because there should always be boundaries with what you say. There should always be that sort of respect with other people,” he continued.
(I’m not just speaking as an ex-”PBB” housemate, but as a man. It makes me sad. It is really sad to hear about it. I mean, whether you are living in the same house, or in the same area with another woman, it shouldn’t be like that. It makes me sad because there should always be boundaries with what you say. There should always be that sort of respect with other people.)
Maristela, on the other hand, said he would always think of his mother and sister while considering his interactions with other women.
He also acknowledged that guys would sometimes make gross jokes, although he pointed out that it shouldn’t be at the expense of a woman.
“Lagi kong iniisip ‘yung mom and sister ko. Mayroon akong mga kapatid na babae at nanay. Siyempre ‘yung mga ganyang bagay talaga, kailangan mo talaga magkaroon ng limitations,” he shared.
(I would always think about my mom and sister, that I have a sister and a mom. Of course, when it comes to things like this, there would be limitations.)
When de Leon and Maristela were asked how they would act if they were in Jose, Victor, Vergara’s shoes, they said that they would immediately apologize for their actions.
“It’s hard. You have to apologize, but at the same time, you can’t repeat it again. Because if it just keeps happening, you keep apologizing and doing it again, it’s useless eh,” de Leon added.
Aside from the “PBB” alums, Jose, Victor, Vergara’s controversial remarks also caught the attention of Gabriela party-list. The lawmakers urged the reality show to take stronger measures against objectifying and inappropriate remarks toward women.
De Leon and Maristela were part of the first edition of “PBB: Celebrity Collab Edition,” and were notable for being considerate toward their fellow housemates. Since leaving the “PBB” house, they have been enjoying a surge in popularity.
They are part of the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2025 entry “Love You So Bad” which stars fellow alums Bianca de Vera, Will Ashley, and Dustin Yu.
