Bea Borres on refusing Herlene Budol’s offer to be baby’s ninang: Not that deep

Bea Borres addressed criticisms thrown at her after she turned down Herlene Budol who volunteered to be a godmother of the former’s baby.
Borres and Budol spent time together with Alex Gonzaga for a YouTube vlog where they tried to cook the traditional Filipino Christmas delicacy puto bumbong.
During one of their conversations, the topic about Borres’ pregnancy and her child’s father were brought up, with Budol saying she is willing to protect the vlogger from those who would do her wrong.
Budol then later told Borres, “Uy, kunin mo akong ninang.” (Include me as one of your baby’s godparents.)
Borres replied, “Puno na ‘yung list e,” while laughing. (But the list is already complete.)
Budol did not seem to mind as she even quipped that she would be the godmother who brings nothing during occasions.
Gonzaga then jokingly told Borres, “Imagine, siya na ‘yung nag-alok, ni-turn down mo pa.” (Imagine, she even offered to be a godmother but you just turned it down.)
This apparently drew criticism from some netizens, prompting Borres to speak about it via her Facebook page on Thursday, Dec. 4.
“So what if I ‘rejected’ Ate Herlene as a ninang, it’s not that serious and deep. I didn’t know naman na magiging issue sa inyo (that it would be an issue for you),” she said.
“Edi kayo mag-anak!” she joked. “But seriously, first trimester pa lang I already have a list of ninongs and ninangs. [By the way] love ko si ate Herlene ha!”
(Why don’t you have children of your own! But seriously, I already completed the list of godparents during my first trimester. By the way, I love Ate Harlene!)
Budol, for her part, clarified that Borres’ decision was fine with her. She also thanked those who expressed their “concern” for her.
“Ang dami nahu-hurt para sa akin kasi nag-volunteer ako bilang ninang pero hindi ako kinuha,” the actress-comedian said via her TikTok page. “Okay lang ‘yon kasi marami rin naman akong inaanak na hindi ko kilala at wala rin akong ambag bilang ninang.”
(A lot of people are saying they feel hurt on my behalf because my offer to be a godmother was turned down. It’s okay because I have a lot of godchildren whom I don’t know, and I haven’t been fulfilling my role as their godmother.)
Budol further quipped that Borres’ refusal was a “lesson learned” for her. “‘Wag kayong magvo-volunteer.” (Do not volunteer.) /edv
