Annabelle McDonnell a ‘Singkil’ princess in The Miss Globe 2025 prelims

Binibining Pilipinas Annabelle Mae McDonnell paraded a Singkil-inspired national costume during the “semi-final” show of The Miss Globe 2025 pageant in Albania.
The 50 delegates from around the globe showcased their national costumes and red evening gowns in the ceremonies held on Oct. 10 (11 in Manila), walking down a makeshift runway and stage.
McDonnell displayed her fan-handling skills as she delivered moves from the “Singkil” dance, which originated in Mindanao where she is from. The 25-year-old host is from Iligan City.
“My great-great grandmother was a proud Maranao woman, and I wanted to honor my heritage through this costume,” she said on social media while sharing photos of the costume.
Designer Chino Christopherson designed McDonnell’s costume in red and gold, with electric-pleated fan-like appliques on the skirt part. A matching parasol with tassels made of beads was attached to her back.
But the “Best in National Costume” award went to Indonesia’s Dela Deniya, who showcased a white winged creation during the competition.
Two more awards were handed out during the show. Miss Runway was Keitty Familia from the Dominican Republic, while the Miss Elegance title went to Hong Kong’s Yimin Wang.
Maureen Montagne, The Miss Globe 2021 and the last winner from the Philippines, was among the evening’s judges, along with Albanian beauty Drita Ziri, 2023 Miss Earth. They were joined by reigning The Miss Globe Diana Moreno.
Montagne and Ziri will also return to The Miss Globe stage as hosts for the final competition show on Oct. 15 (16 in Manila). The Filipino queen had taken on the microphone when she relinquished her title in 2022, while the Albanian beauty served as a presenter before she became Miss Earth. /ra
