Mikoy Morales, Esteban Mara secure about their sexuality as lovers in new BL series

Mikoy Morales and Esteban Mara credit their being secure about their sexuality for successfully portraying their characters in the new boys’ love (BL) vertical series “Got My Eyes on You.” 

Speaking with the press during the official launch of the series in Quezon City on Tuesday, Sept. 16, Morales said he did not have a hard time working with Mara because there was no awkwardness between them. 

“Yes, me, I’m confident [about my sexuality],” he told reporters. “He’s very professional and disciplined. Above all, especially in these roles, it’s important that he is secure in his identity. There’s no room for awkwardness. It’s easy to jump into a scene with him because there’s no malice from him.” 

Mara, who marked his first mainstream role in “Got My Eyes on You,” echoed Morales’ sentiments, explaining that playing the enemies-to-lovers Shawn and Drew became easy for them. 

“I’m secure as well. Like he said, it’s what makes it easy for us to portray the characters because it’s clear to us what needs to be portrayed; we know once the camera starts rolling , it’s Shawn and Drew already,” he said. 

Both actors are currently in long-term relationships. Mara is dating his non-showbiz girlfriend Gabe Paras, while Morales recently become engaged to his non-showbiz beau, Isa Garcia.

When asked how their real-life lovers reacted to them playing lovers, Mara and Morales explained that both girls were supportive. 

“She’s happy. It has its own conversation, especially when it comes to portraying these types of characters and intimate scenes. But that’s how we are; as long as everything is clear, there’s no problem for us,” said Mara. 

Morales, on the other hand, joked, “She’s used to it. Maybe for her, as long as it would contribute to the expenses of our coming wedding.”

The BL series is directed by Dizelle Masilungan, who won the Best Director award for his work “Kung Nag-aatubili” at the 2024 CinePanalo Film Festival. He is joined by Ram Tolentino (assistant director), Lloyd Garciano (director of photography) and Migo Morales (production designer). 

The first six episodes of “Got My Eyes on You” are now available on TikTok, with the remaining episodes releasing every week. 

Aside from Mara and Morales, the vertical series also stars content creator Toniyuh, Victor Sy, Hannah Lee, Ady Cotoco and Darwin Yu. 

“Got My Eyes on You” is created by the same producers of the hit series “Si Sol at Si Luna,” starring Jane Oineza and Zaijian Jaranilla. /ra
