Despite its strong viewership, “Batang Quiapo” drew criticism from netizens in 2024 for portraying a “level of misogyny” in its treatment of female characters, particularly in abuse scenes.
The show also came under fire earlier this year after election lawyer Romulo Macalintal asked the Commission on Elections to “educate” the show’s producers about factual errors in one of its scenes featuring “premature campaigning.”
Montes and Martin have been in a relationship for 12 years, but the actor only confirmed their status to the public in May 2023.
Meanwhile, Montes is fresh from the success of her drama series “Saving Grace,” the Philippine adaptation of the hit Japanese drama “Mother.”
“Saving Grace” was recently nominated for Best Asian Content at the 2025 South Korea-based Global OTT Awards.
It also received nominations for Best Series and Best Screenwriter at the 2025 Seoul International Drama Awards./mcm
