The country has a new Earth warrior, and she is Joy Barcoma of Bacoor City, who was crowned as Miss Philippines Earth on Aug. 10.
An early favorite, Barcoma bested 35 other aspirants in ceremonies held at the Cove Manila club of Okada Manila in Parañaque City, at the 25th staging of the environment-themed national pageant.
The new queen inherited her crown from last year’s winner, Irha Mel Alfeche, who was the lone Asian woman to advance to the Top 12 of the 2024 Miss Earth pageant held in Manila.
Barcoma now carries the duty of representing the Philippines in the Miss Earth pageant later this year, and try to become the fifth Filipino woman to win the international title.
Also crowned alongside her are Miss Philippines-Air Liz Mabao of Antipolo City, and Miss Philippines-Water Angel Rose Tambal from La Paz, Leyte.
Joining them are Miss Philippines-Fire Jaymie Strickland from Tallahassee, Florida, and Miss Philippines Ecotourism Kriezl Jane Torres from Talakag, Bukidnon.

The Miss Philippines Earth pageant was founded in 2001 by Carousel Productions, the same organizer behind the Miss Earth pageant, one of the Big 4 international competitions. Both contests promote sustainabilty and environmental protection.
The Miss Earth pageant will also mount its 25th edition later this year. The Philippines is the best-performing country in the pageant with four winners–Karla Henry in 2008, Jamie Herrell in 2014, Angelia Ong in 2015, and Karen Ibasco in 2017.
Dubbed “The Silver Lining,” the 25th edition of the Miss Philippines Earth pageant hosted a reunion of its past titleholders, including current Miss Universe Philippines second runner-up Yllana Marie Aduana who won the title in 2023, and went on to be crowned Miss Earth-Air in Vietnam.
Also in the gathering of Miss Philippines Earth queens and “elemental” titleholders were 2025 The Miss Philippines-Cosmo and 2022 Binibining Pilipinas Globe Chelsea Fernandez, and actress-host Janelle Tee from the 2019 batch. Controversial beauty Imelda Schweighart, who stepped down as Miss Philippines Earth in 2016 after her failed bid for the Miss Earth crown, also made an appearance, to loud cheers from the crowd. Carlene Aguilar, the first-ever Miss Philippines-Earth winner, went onstage and reenacted the final moments of the 2001 pageant with her runner-up, broadcaster Menchu Macapagal. /edv
