Fans of Maki and KATSEYE didn’t hide their excitement after the “Dilaw” hitmaker shared photos of himself hanging out with Sophia Laforteza last June, to which he revealed they are good friends months later.

Maki visited Los Angeles, California, to perform for fans last June. One of the things he did during his downtime was hanging out with Sophia, where he received his own copy of the girl group’s second EP, “Beautiful Chaos.”

According to the singer-songwriter, he and Sophia became close through a mutual friend, and even looked forward to watching KATSEYE’s performance in the Philippines in September 2024.

“Me and Sophia are super friends talaga. Lumabas kasi ‘yung KATSEYE, meron kaming friend of a friend na mutual. Naalala ko noong pumunta sila sa Pilipinas, pinush ko talagang pumunta sa BGC para makanood pero hindi ako umabot and I told her that,” he told INQUIRER.net on the sidelines of a Sony ULT event in Taguig.

(Sophia and I are really super friends. When KATSEYE debuted, we had a friend of a friend who’s a mutual. I remembered when they visited the Philippines, I really did my best to go to BGC just to watch. However, I didn’t make it and I told her that.)

Maki ended up ranting about it to Sophia, which prompted the latter to tell him to visit her in Los Angeles or watch their shows.

“So nagra-rant ako kay Sophia, t’as sabi niya, come to LA or manood ka ng show. Hindi ako makanood ng show (I ranted about it to Sophia. She told me, Come to LA or watch our shows. I wasn’t able to watch their show), but I got to meet her,” he recalled. “She’s super, super nice, super talented, and super down to earth. It’s so nice I get to have a friend who’s so talented and who’s so pretty, so kind. Support KATSEYE.”

Maki is set to release his first full-length album, “Kolorcoaster,” on September 19. He kept his lips sealed on the full details, but fans can expect that his color-themed hit songs “Dilaw,” “Namumula,” “Bughaw,” and “Kahel na Langit” will be included.

“If I have to describe my life in colors, ang crazy na. Ang daming nangyayari (it has been so crazy. A lot of things are happening). I would say ROYGBIV,” he said while referring to the colors of the rainbow when asked about a color to describe his life.

Meanwhile, Sophia and her bandmates Lara, Yoonchae, Megan, Daniela, and Manon have been making waves on social media since their explosive debut at the 2025 Lollapalooza music festival at Grant Park in Chicago.

KATSEYE’s Lollapalooza setlist included “Gameboy,” “Debut,” “My Way,” “Tonight I Might,” “Mean Girls,” “Gabriela,” “Touch,” “M.I.A,” and “Gnarly.”
