Anne Curtis urged government agencies to beef up their services in ensuring the safety of motorists following the recent string of vehicular accidents making headlines.

Curtis took to her Facebook page on Sunday, May 4, to express her sympathy for the “young lives” affected by recent crashes, apparently referring to the two casualties, including a five-year-old girl, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on May 4, and the 10 killed at SCTEX Exit Toll Gate in Tarlac.

“Seeing so many vehicle accidents on the news with lives tragically taken. So many young lives being taken away so soon,” she said. “My heart goes out to all those left to grieve for their parents, significant [others], family [members] and their children.”

The actress hoped the recent road crashes would be a “wake-up call” to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to improve their services in ensuring the safety of drivers and passengers.

“I truly pray and hope this is a wake-up call for those in the [DOTr] and LTO to find ways to ensure that drivers and vehicles on the roads meet the highest safety and licensing standards,” she said.

Curtis’ statement came hours after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) rammed through the outer railing and onto the walkway along the entrance of NAIA Terminal 1 on Sunday, May 4. The incident resulted in the death of a 5-year-old girl and a 29-year-old man, and four injuries.

Another recent vehicular accident making headlines was the multiple vehicle collision along the SCTEX Exit Toll Gate in Tarlac on Thursday, May 1, which killed 12 people and injured dozens.
