Singer Juan Karlos “JK” Labajo honored the memory of a fan, Trisha Macalagay, who recently died in a fire at a university in Laguna. 

During his set at the Anilag Festival in Laguna, Labajo gave a shoutout to Macalagay and performed her favorite song, his cover of “Through the Years” from the film “Lolo and The Kid.”

“Ito yung song na gustong gusto niya. Trisha wanted to go tonight kaso lang… Trisha, kung nasaan ka man ngayon, para sa’yo ito,” said the singer in a video posted by the late fan’s family.

Labajo also attended Macalagay’s wake and was captured talking and hugging the latter’s family members.

The “Ere” singer also posted a short message to Macalagay through his Facebook page, writing, “Maraming Salamat, Trisha Macalagay [red heart emoji].”

Macalagay’s family expressed their gratitude to Labajo for his gestures that were described as “a sense of hope and comfort.”

“Thank you for making Trisha’s dream come true, Juan Karlos. Such a humble gentleman! Nakaka hanga ka tunay, JK! Watching her dream become a reality gave us a sense of hope and peace. Thank you for bringing so much comfort to our family and mostly to Trisha!” wrote one family member.

Macalagay, a biology student and beauty queen, was the sole fatality in a fire that broke out at the Laguna State Polytechnic University College of Arts and Sciences in Barangay Bubukal on March 13.

Macalagay was an official of the Supreme Student Council and was also the titleholder of Miss Paete Tourism.

In a statement, the university promised to do a “thorough” investigation into the cause of fire while stressing that they are committed to “extending all forms of help” to the late student’s family.
