Pulang Araw” is one of the local works set to be archived on the moon — as part of the Lunar Codex’s time capsule project — making it the first Filipino drama to do so.

The historical drama, starring Barbie Forteza, Alden Richards, Sanya Lopez, and David Licauco, recently reached this milestone, which was announced on Wednesday, November 27, during the broadcast of GMA’s 24 Oras.

GMA’s flagship newscast said the drama was selected to be part of the project as it narrates a significant moment in Philippine history.

Founded by Dr. Samuel Peralta, the Lunar Codex project features works from filmmakers, writers, and artists from “185 countries and 160 indigenous nations,” to be launched to the moon hoping to preserve its cultural significance for the next generations.

The selected works are compressed and laser-etched on a NanoFiche (said to be the size of an “American quarter”), as a way of “making miniature versions” of a catalog, per report.

The music of P-pop powerhouse SB19 is also part of the archival pieces headed for the moon.

“Individual works are copyrighted by their respective creators, editors, publishers, or owners, and all rights as appropriate remain with them, whether or not a notice appears adjacent to the work,” a statement on the Lunar Codex’s official website said.

“All works included in the Lunar Codex have been archived with permission from their respective creators, editors, publishers, or owners, whether individually, or as represented in a collection such as an anthology, exhibit, catalog, or magazine,” it added.

Other local works part of the Lunar Codex project in 2023 were the music of BINI, BGYO, Gary Valenciano, Apo Hiking Society, and National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab.
