Filipino crooner Sofronio Vasquez secures spot in The Voice Top 20

Filipino singer Sofronio Vasquez landed in the Top 20 of the American reality competition The Voice,” after show coach Michael Bublé chose him to advance to the next round.

In the three-way knockout round, Vasquez delivered a powerful rendition of Dusty Springfield’s classic “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me,” capturing the essence of the song with his storytelling and vocal prowess, INQUIRER.net USA reported.

After the battles and the knockout round, the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” finalist secured his spot in the Top 20 of the American singing competition,

Taking to Instagram to celebrate his achievement, Vasquez expressed deep gratitude.

“See you at the PlayOffs! TOP 20 na tayo (We’re in the Top 20),” he wrote in a post. “Thank you, Lord. So honored to have worked with EGOT @iamjhud and, of course, my icon @michaelbuble. Thank you so much! #TeamBublé all the way.”

Competing against Jeremy Beloate, who sang JVKE’s “golden hour,” and Kiara Vega, who performed The Weeknd’s “Call Out My Name,” Vasquez stood out as the clear winner.

Bublé confirmed the decision, declaring, “The winner of this knockout is Sofronio.”

Fellow coach Jennifer Hudson was so amazed at Vasquez that she threw her shoes at him in jest. “Did you all get to see that? … The talent is crazy, I don’t know what you’re gonna do. I’m serious, like, my heart. Oh my God!” she exclaimed.

The successive win follows his earlier victories in the competition. Vasquez wowed all four coaches during his blind audition in September, earning a coveted four-chair turn.

In the battles round, he delivered a duet of Celine Dion’s “The Power of Love,” with fellow contestant Aliyah Khaylyn emerging as the winner.

Prior to securing his spot in the top 20, Vasquez recently celebrated his birthday. In a separate post featuring a photo of his younger self blowing out the candles on a cake, he captioned it, “Turned 32 today and decided to celebrate it working + was able to share blessings back home. Thank you, Lord.”

Now, with the playoffs ahead, the singer continues to carry the hopes of his supporters worldwide as he chases his dream of becoming The Voice champion.
