“Depende pa rin talaga sa tao. [‘Yung kanina], mantra ko [siya] sa buhay. People make mistakes over and over again,” he said. “Sometimes, hindi natin maiiwasan na gumawa ng mga bagay na ikakasama ng ibang tao. At the same time, at the end of the day, you forgive and forget. But sometimes, you forgive and move on. But you never forget.”

(It depends on the person. What I said a while ago is my mantra in life. People make mistakes over and over again. Sometimes, you can’t help but do something that would make others upset. At the same time, at the end of the day, you forgive and forget. But sometimes, you forgive and move on. But you never forget.)

For her part, Bernardo is aware that people hope to get a second chance when they make mistakes because, at the end of the day, they’re all human beings. She, too, noted that she has her fair share of mistakes.

“Makakadisappoint ako ng tao whether it’s intentional or unintentional. Given ‘yun (I can disappoint someone whether it’s intentional or unintentional. It’s a given),” she said. “Personally, I’d do anything to be given that second chance again and that opportunity to correct my wrongdoings, rebuild relationships, and regain trust, all these things, part ‘yun ng forgiveness.”

Bernardo, however, stressed that people are different which extends to them having varying opinions on whether or not they would forgive. “Some people can give a second chance. Some can give multiple chances. Some won’t. And that’s okay.”

“And we have to respect that kasi iba-iba namang tayong tao so depende talaga siya sa sitwasyon,” she continued. “For me, lagi kong iniisip na forgiveness or second chances isn’t an obligation. It’s a choice and it’s a gift. So kapag binigay ‘yun sa iyo ng tao, it’s a privilege. And just like any gift, you have to take care of it. You have to earn that gift.”
