Ivana Alawi not inclined to join politics: I don’t want to put our country at risk

Answering questions from fans, Ivana Alawi stressed that she has no plans of running for public office at the moment as she “knows nothing” about politics.

The actress set the record straight through a video on her TikTok page on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

“Ang daming nagme-message sa akin recently na, ‘Ivana, tatakbo ka ba?’ And guys, I think it’s the perfect opportunity and the perfect time for me to finally tell you, at sana ibigay niyo ang buo niyong suporta sa hindi ko pagtakbo,” she said.

“Wala akong alam sa politics; wala akong alam sa paggawa ng batas,” she added, noting that she will not venture into something that she’s not prepared for. “Siguro kung papasok man ako sa ganyan, dapat mag-aral man lang ako ng three to four years—because I don’t want to put our country at risk.”

(I know nothing about politics and making laws. If I were to enter such, I must first study for three to four years—because I don’t want to put our country at risk.)

Alawi then reflected on how almost all political aspirants would cite their intent to help their fellow Filipinos.

“Guys, kayang-kaya nating gawin ‘yon even without being into politics. Hindi mo kailangang maging congressman or mayor or councilor para makatulong ka. We can all help out in our small ways,” she said.

(Guys, we can [help our countrymen] even without being in politics. You don’t have to be a congressman, mayor or councilor. We can all help out in our small ways.)

Speaking about the vital qualities of a public servant, she continued, “Kung papasok ka sa politics at ipaglalaban mo ang Pilipinas, dapat may utak ka—at dapat may laman ‘yung utak mo.” (If you were to join politics, you must have the brain for it.)

She also reminded voters that trust, not popularity or pleasing appearance, should be the basis in choosing the candidate they will support.

“Please vote wisely kasi mahal natin ang Pilipinas. I believe aasenso ang Pilipinas as long as we pick the right leaders,” she stated. (Please vote wisely because we love the Philippines. I believe the country will prosper as long as we pick the right leaders.)

Alawi addressed those vying for public posts as well and stressed that they must be dedicated in serving the Filipino people. “Kung makasarili ka, ‘wag ka na tumakbo.” (If you are selfish, please don’t run for public office.)
