John Arcilla gave his two cents on the highly publicized rift between Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and his mom Angelica, lamenting how the public has been focusing more on this instead of celebrating the athlete’s win.

The veteran actor spoke about this in a lengthy Instagram post on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

“Parang lumalala na. Sana i-celebrate na lang muna natin ang tagumpay ng kagilagilalas na si Carlos Yulo kahit isang buwan man lang o higit pa, kasi dahil sa kanya nakakaproud bilang Pilipino,” he said.

Arcilla further underscored the importance of “self-regulation,” a principle that he said the public should be reminded of.

“Sa ganitong level ba talaga natin gustong i-focus ang tagumpay ni Carlos Yulo na tagumpay din natin bilang isang nasyon? Mas importante ba talaga na maka-scoop muna?” he continued, seemingly addressing the media.

“Kung hindi natin ito isusubo sa masa hindi rin naman nila ito bibigyan ng atension. Tayo ang magtuturo sa ating mga kababayan kung ano ang mas mahalagang pag-usapan,” he added. “Siguro pwede tayong mag focus na itaas muna ang moral nating mga Pilipino. Kahit saglit lang o kahit panghabangbuhay na. Maraming salamat po.”

Carlos and Angelica have been the talk of the town after the latter publicly expressed her disapproval of the former’s girlfriend, content creator Chloe San Jose. Angelica also admitted making decisions regarding Carlos’ finances, which she said was to safeguard the athlete’s future.

In response, Carlos admitted that San Jose was indeed the “root” cause of his falling out with his mom because Angelica “judged Chloe right away.”

Carlos also said that Angelica had not disclosed to him all the withdrawals she had made from his bank accounts, which she had been handling on his behalf.

“My message to you, Ma, is to heal and move on. I forgave you a long time ago. I pray that you are always safe and in good health,” he said in Filipino. “Let’s stop this (bickering) and instead celebrate the hard work and sacrifices of every Filipino athlete here at the Olympics.”
