After portraying a couple of gay roles on film and television, Miggy Jimenez said people gossiping about his real-life sexual preference doesn’t affect him anymore.

“I actually don’t care anymore [if they doubt me when I say I’m straight]. They can choose what they want to believe. I know myself, but I can’t control people whose tendency is to judge others so easily. I just tell them, ‘Enjoy!’ Also, because this question is usually asked during interviews, I’m already used to answering it,” he told Inquirer Entertainment in a recent interview.

Miggy said he has a nonshow biz girlfriend, “who is very supportive when it comes to my work,” he said. “We’ve been dating for quite some time now, and I’m just happy. It’s not a secret, but it’s very private. She understands the kind of work that I do. It’s important for her that I talk to her about the projects I’m working on, especially if I have to do specific scenes that I find difficult or too sexy.”

FEATURED STORIES

“There were times when she would say ‘no’ to some roles, but would change her mind when I explained to her that it’s just part of my job. I only needed to assure her [of my loyalty], especially when I’m in a lock-in set. It’s a big deal for her that I send updates on what I’m doing. That’s why even when I’m busy, I make sure to still make time,” the actor said.

Miggy appeared in the BL (boy’s love) film “Two and One,” opposite Cedrick Juan. He is also part of the series “Senior High,” with Zaijian Jaranilla as his onscreen partner. He was also a cast member of Jun Robles Lana’s BL series “Gameboys.”

All about the story

In his latest movie, “Your Mother’s Son,” Miggy had to kiss coactor Kokoy de Santos. “It’s so easy to work with Kokoy. We’re already so comfortable being around each other that we no longer have any qualms about doing anything, including kissing each other on the set. We already know a lot about each other, and so if he continues to tease me about that one funny scene in the movie, I will have no choice but to expose the skeletons in his closet,” Miggy said, laughing.

Miggy also plays a lover to Zaijian’s character in “Senior High.” He added: “I no longer look at the gender of my character. After a while, it gets too tiring to always be defending a queer character, not that it really needs rescuing. For me, choosing a project is all about the story. I believe that there are still a lot of stories about same-sex romance that we need to tell,” he said.

Doing kissing scenes with another man, or shooting bed scenes as part of a threesome doesn’t bother Miggy any longer. “Each kissing scene or bed scene is different. This is because the stories we try to tell are also different, as well as the work setup, and the situations that the characters are facing. I no longer look at who I am sharing a bed scene with. I look at the story, as well as the importance of that scene in the story’s entirety. I’m more focused on the lesson it is trying to teach its audience,” he pointed out. INQ
