Collaborating with South Korean singer-songwriter and actor Seo In-guk for a song feels like an “out of this world” experience for Francine Diaz, but it reminded her of the beauty of “letting go” as “good results” will follow.

Diaz and Seo joined forces for a new single “My Love” which was composed and written by the latter together with Pak Kyung-hyun, and Mo Sang-hoon. The collaboration came about after they were introduced to one another at a fan meet, with Seo pitching the idea to Diaz and her team.

“Since kinakabahan ako while recording this, isa sa mga na-realize ko is to go with the flow kahit kinakabahan or takot ka sa ginagawa mo,” she said at an intimate mediacon, while recalling her experience working with Seo. “And to believe the results will be good always. As long as you have the strong spirit and the courage, then the results will be good.”

(Since I was nervous while recording this, one of the realizations I had is to go with the flow even if you’re intimidated and scared by what you’re about to do. And to believe the results will be good always. As long as you have the strong spirit and the courage, then the results will be good.)

But it seemed that Diaz made quite a good impression with the “Reply 1997” star as he praised the actress for her “lovely” personality.

“I’m happy to have the opportunity to work with Francine. While working with her, I realized that she’s someone with a lovely energy and vibe. We were able to work pleasantly together,” said Seo, who said he sees her as a “cute younger sister.”

“I want to work with Francine on new, exciting projects in the future. I feel very happy to receive a warm response in the Philippines. I’m very grateful,” he continued.

Song for Francine

The majority of Seo’s past songs, according to him, had always shown him “feeling down.” Yet it was Diaz’s persona that made him decide to create a song that suited her perfectly.

“A lot of my songs showed me feeling down. With this, I thought of working with Francine who’s such a lovely person, and I want to work on a song that fits her personality which is very bright,” he said.

After all, Seo noted that an artist shouldn’t produce the “same song” every time. “My Love” is meant to be a “love confession” that aims to give back to his fans after he received a lot of love from them.

“Personally, I write songs that are usually not revolving around what I feel. I just think of a certain concept and lyrics that would fit. I don’t relate it to my personal thoughts,” he said. “In terms of writing new songs, you really can’t just produce the same song every time. With every song I create, I think it just really goes with what I’m working on at the moment.”

Intimidated

Diaz, on the other hand, said being chosen to work with Seo in South Korea was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for her. The upcoming single is not her first time to dip her toes into music, but the latter had been such a helpful duet partner.

“I’m more known in the Philippines so hindi ko lang inexpect that he would choose me. Na-intimidate ako, but it felt nice kasi nan’dun ako sa South Korea and nakita ko siya. It felt nice. Wala namang hierarchy or anything. I felt that I [was being] me even though I was really nervous. But tinulungan niya ako and he was guiding me in every step,” he said.
