Super Tekla reveals a comedy bar customer pulled gun on him

TV host-comedian Super Tekla revealed that a customer once pulled a gun on him in a comedy bar after the customer was offended by one of his jokes.

During a guest appearance with Boobay on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda on Wednesday, Jan. 17, Tekla shared that during his early days as a stand-up comic in a comedy bar, there was a time a customer got insulted by one of his punchlines.

“Ako one time, bago pa lang ako non, kinakapa ko kung paano ‘yung atake ko kasi mahirap eh, dapat responsibility mo ‘yun, ‘yung words mo dapat appropriate, paglapat mo sa tao para hindi [offensive]. Noong sa akin hindi pa ‘ko sanay, na-offend, nagkasa ng baril,” he narrated. 

(During the days when I was still new to performing in comedy bars, I still didn’t know how to approach my comedic take because your words have to be appropriate so that it will not be offensive. But there was a time when I offended a customer, and he pulled a gun on me.)

Tekla then shared the joke that got the customer upset. “Kasi ang joke ko sa kanya, ‘Ang ingay-ingay mo diyan eh, pabigat ka lang naman.’ Mabigat, pangit ‘yung dating, pangit ‘yung atake,” he said. 

(The joke I said to him was, “You are so loud there, when in fact you are just a burden.” The joke landed heavy. It was an inappropriate approach.)

After the traumatizing incident, the comedian said that he explained to the customer that it was just a joke, which is inevitable in a place like a comedy bar.

“Nakuha ko siya na, ‘Sorry, I’m a comedian. Siyempre pumasok ka sa lugar na ganito, expect the unexpected. We say something not in common, so bear with us,’” said Tekla.

The TV host shared the lesson he learned, saying, “Dapat pag-aralan mo ‘yung mga tamang salitang ilalapat mo sa craft mo or performance mo.”
