Transcending borders: Careless Music’s reason for being

We asked James Reid what type of sound Careless Music, the independent record label he founded in 2017 to create “progressive content,” wants to support and discover.

“We want to showcase the kind of music that can transcend borders, locally and internationally,” James told Inquirer Entertainment. “We want the type of sound that can connect us with more audiences outside the Philippines. I think that’s always been the lane that we’ve stayed on.

“You know, I’m grateful for the support that I’ve enjoyed locally. And even though I’ve never really made that sort of ‘traditional, OPM-sounding’ music, I’ve always tried to push the envelope a little bit. I wanted to see where the edges and what the limitations are just to push it a little further—and that’s the main thing.

“We want something that sounds fun and creative. Hopefully, the music that we create does just that. And we’re still trying to find that sweet spot where the music can be very Filipino but still transcend borders.” INQ
