Andrea Brillantes hopes to be taken seriously as an actress: ‘Tumatanda na ’ko’
Andrea Brillantes is no stranger to the spotlight as she started showbiz at a young age. But as she turned 20 last March, she hoped the public would see her as a grown woman especially when it comes to acting.
In a cover story with lifestyle magazine Metro, the 20-year-old Brillantes spoke about wanting to be taken seriously as an actress, as she reminded the public that her career as a child actress is long gone.
“Ang dami pa rin namang nagsasabi na ang bata-bata ko pa. I’m 20 na, and pataas na lang ’yun nang pataas,” she was quoted as saying. “Sana maiwan na nila ‘yung image ko na ako lang ‘yung 12-year old, 10-year old na ‘yun, na hindi ako pwedeng mag-explore sa mga ganitong roles, hindi ako pwedeng manamit ng mga ganitong klaseng damit.”
(Many people say that I’m still young. I’m 20 already, and I will only get older. I hope they would leave behind the image when I was still 12 years old or 10 years old, that I’m not allowed to explore other roles and I can’t wear certain clothes.)
The actress said in the report that while she’s grateful for her breakthrough character Annaliza back in 2013, she wants to be seen as a mature actress who can take on different roles.

Tumatanda na ’ko. Kailangan nilang matanggap ’yun,” she said, hinting that her next projects would tackle more serious topics.

As the “Kadenang Ginto” star takes on the role of Betty in the series “Drag You and Me,” she admitted that she opted to choose roles that don’t rely on being “pretty” to develop her acting career.
“Sa next show ko, I think hindi ‘yun ‘yung ine-expect ng mga fans ko pero siguro, expect nila na mas magiging serious na ’yung next role ko at hindi na lang ako ’yung pa-pretty-pretty na lang lagi,” she said in the report.
(In my next show, I think it’s something my fans wouldn’t expect, but that it would be more serious and I wouldn’t just rely on being pretty.)
Aside from the drag-themed drama, the actress will star in the upcoming series “Senior High” with Xyriel Manabat, Kyle Echarri, Elijah Canlas, Zaijian Jaranilla, and Juan Karlos Labajo.
The names of the actors’ characters and premiere date, however, are yet to be revealed. EDV
